About ANRA
The peak industry body for open narrowcast radio in Australia.
Australians love living in a country filled with diverse voices. We love telling stories, sharing our interests and enjoying time together.
Whether you operate a single narrowcast licence or a much wider range of radio services, the Australian Narrowcast Radio Association (ANRA) represents around 75% of all narrowcast licences in Australia, supporting high-powered (HPON) and low-powered (LPON) operators to deliver the rich cultural mosaic of services envisaged under the Broadcasting Services Act 1992.
ANRA's membership includes TAB and racing services, foreign-language, fringe music, tourist and religious services, and smaller operators including private individuals.
What is narrowcast radio?
Open narrowcast services are radio services with limited reception or appeal – for example, targeted to special-interest groups, a particular location or a particular event. They operate under class licences, as either low-power (LPON) or high-power (HPON) services.
Executive Committee
ANRA is led by a volunteer Executive Committee made up of a President and between two and six other elected members, as set out in the ANRA Constitution. Office bearers are elected at each Annual General Meeting (AGM) and hold their positions until the following AGM – roughly 12 months.
Current Executive
- President: Phil Edwards (Vision Christian Media)
- Executive Committee: Michael Engelbrecht (SDA/Faith FM), Timmy Byrne (Kiss FM), Glenn Duncan (Tabcorp), Barry Green (Western Tourist Radio), Nathan Rose (Noise FM) and Sam Thompson (Sports Entertainment Network)
- Executive Officer (Secretary): Ange Nacson
As elected at the 2025 AGM. [Update after the 2026 AGM]
How the Executive is elected
- Notice of election. At least four weeks before the AGM, all eligible members receive a written notice of the election, together with a nomination form.
- Nominations. Members may nominate themselves or another member. Nominations must be seconded by another member and emailed to secretary@narrowcastradio.com.au by midnight two weeks before the AGM.
- Final list of nominees. One week before the AGM, members receive the agenda, meeting papers and the final list of nominees for President and Executive.
- Voting at the AGM. The President is elected first, followed by the other Executive positions, by show of hands or another agreed method. A candidate who is unsuccessful for President may stand for the Executive. If there are fewer nominees than positions, those nominated are elected without a vote.
Who can take part? Only financial members in good standing under ANRA's Constitution may nominate, stand for election or vote. Current office bearers may stand for re-election, and members may assign their vote to another member by proxy.
